Our Standard lawn care program is designed to create and maintain a healthy lawn. The Standard lawn care program is an IPM (Integrated Pest Management Program) that combines organic and inorganic products to maximize results.
Please look over our lawn care options for 2021. We can work with you to customize your program to best suit your lawn. If you are new to treating your lawn, or would like more info, please email Tyler Picard at Tyler@Mountainhl.com, or call (413) 458-3808 ext. 5 to set up a free consultation. Core aeration is beneficial for your lawn in many ways. Soil can become compacted over time, especially if the soil has higher clay content, or if the turf is in a high foot traffic area. This can limit the ability of turf grass to grow deep and healthy roots. Core aeration relieves soil compaction by removing “plugs” of soil and organic material and depositing them back onto your lawn. This allows the roots to grow deeper and help them become more tolerant to weather and disease. Thatch can also become a problem over time. Thatch is a small layer of dead and living organic material that can build up in your lawn. Some thatch is healthy, but too much can lead to lawn disease and insect infestation. When the “plugs” are deposited back on your lawn it helps speed up the natural decomposition process. Other benefits include: Improved air exchange, increased soil water uptake, enhanced fertilizer uptake, and reduced runoff, and puddling. (We recommend this treatment to be applied 1 to 2 times per year)
Pre-emergent Crabgrass control with fertilizer is done in early Spring. This will help to prevent any Crabgrass seeds in your lawn from germinating. It also prevents germination of other common weeds. The fertilizer will help to maintain healthy turf grass, allowing it to establish itself better while keeping new weeds out. Depending on weather conditions and the current state of weed and crabgrass presence in your lawn, additional post-emergent options may be necessary later in the season.
Fertilizer will still give you many benefits. Fertilizers contain certain nutrients that are essential to a healthy lawn. We use a combination of slow release and quick release granular formulation that will feed your lawn for 6-8 weeks. Fertilizing helps to keep your grass greener, have stronger root systems, and make it more disease and weather resistant. A healthier lawn will also help to keep weeds from finding a spot to take root.
Note: Organic fertilizer is also available.
Post-emergent weed treatment with fertilizer
Not all weeds can be controlled with pre-emergent weed treatment. Some weeds, such as perennial broadleaf weeds are most likely in your lawn already. This treatment combined with fertilizer is one of the most effective in controlling weeds.
Lime is the most natural organic way to balance the pH in your soil. It is very important in order to have healthy turf to control the pH level. A low pH in your soil will lead to decreased nutrient uptake, causing a loss of color, reduced ability to recover from drought and heat stress, and decreased growth rates. Turf grass does best when the pH is between 6.0-7.0. A simple soil test can be done to determine the soil pH. (We recommend this treatment to be applied 1 to 2 times a year depending on the soil pH, best applied in the fall)
Grub control should be applied for preventative results. By the time the grubs have hatched the treatment will be worked into the soil, keeping the grubs from feeding, effectively eliminating them. If grubs have already established themselves a curative grub control can be applied in the Spring or early Fall. (We recommend this treatment to be applied once per year)
If conditions are very wet pre-emergent treatments for Crabgrass may not be completely effective. A post-emergent spot treatment of Crabgrass can be applied if necessary to kill off any Crabgrass that may have germinated or was already stablished. For best results this should be done as soon as Crabgrass is present, to keep it from going to seed and possibly germinating the following season.
Slice Seeding/Over Seeding
Slice seeding is the best way to achieve successful results. Over seeding thin lawns, or thin lawn areas, is the best organic practice to prevent new weeds in the Spring and Fall. A healthy dense lawn will crowd out the weeds. This treatment is best done in early Spring or early Fall. (We recommend this treatment 1 to 2 times per year based on the needs of your lawn)
****** Organic Tick Control******
Our organic tick control treatment, works by killing ticks and mosquitoes on contact, as well as creating a barrier, that will keep your lawn tick free for up to 60 days, and mosquito free for up to a month. (We recommend this treatment to be applied 3 to 4 times per year)
